The introductory course is designed to assist you in deciding whether owning a business is right for you by providing a realistic introduction to business ownership. The curriculum includes an overview of the challenges and financial commitment needed for business start-up and a self-assessment component to help you analyze your personal background, behavior patterns and lifestyle in comparison to those of successful small business owners. You will examine a variety of issues including:

• What are the realities, the pros and cons of self-employment?
• Do I have what it takes to be a business owner?
• What are the sources of business capitalization and financing in my community?
• What is a business plan and what do potential funders want to see in it?
• What is the expected level of personal participation and potential risks?
